The coziest little bookshop in the prettiest village in Maine.
Independent bookshops are born of passion…for words, for stories, for the exchange of ideas. What could be better than the smell of a leather wingback, the heft of a good strong narrative, the sound of pages flipping one to the next?
Welcome to Fiction: A Novel Bookshop. You are cordially invited to browse at your leisure. Have a seat on our vintage sofa. If there is a lull at the till, we will happily pour you a cup of tea while you wander round. Come chat with us about the books you love and we will do our best to help you discover your next favorite read. We can also suggest the perfect gift for the book lovers in your life.
We love independent bookshops, the lot of them, in all their lovely, eccentric, wild, and wondrous iterations! We imagine you have many favorites…we hope Fiction will be one of them.
Stop in and say Hello…we can’t wait to meet you!

Meet the proprietor
Fiction’s founder made her first ever purchase secretly at the age of six: a set of Snoopy books. They were to be paid for COD (Cash on Delivery - for those of you not born in the 60’s). Her parents, tight on money but shocked AND impressed by the audacity, paid for the little volumes. Books have been a singular passion ever since.
When Toni decided to open a bookshop, her daughters, Alex and Indi, were immediately on board, taking time off from their day jobs to help organize and stock thousands of books and in the process becoming Fiction’s not-so-silent partners!
These days, Toni spends her time surrounded by books in a historic 18th-century chandlery, a place where sailors came to stock up on supplies - especially candles to illuminate the long inky nights at sea. That’s books too, right? Brimming with ideas to light up the dark.
